Harrison Cub Football has become a part of the
"Current Projects" section, as my son, Dylan, (#13) plays
on this team.
I missed the first game of the season due to a prior commitment to document
the troop deployment of the 163rd National Guard Field Artillery unit,
but the remainder of the season's games will be posted here.
** on a personal note**
I have watched many of the kids on this team play since they were 9
and 10 years old, and it has been fun to follow them with my camera
as they
have grown. Many of these kids also played for the Lakeview Titans,
and without going into the championships they won, I would like
to thank one man; Coach Mike McCool, for his fairness, and kindness,
to my son inparticular, but to every kid he's ever coached!
Coach McCool is the kind of man who would work all day, then start picking
up kids who needed a ride to get to practice,
then when the sun had set and practice was "officially" over,
he would stay and work with kids or just talk to them about football.
We need more men in this world like Coach McCool training our kids.
He takes some flack from other coaches for his "lip", but
he did two things that I hope every kid at Lakeview Optimist Football
observed and took with them;
1) He never lied, or bowed to the politics so prevelant in youth sports
today, and 2) He always gave a kid a chance, and an even break!
Thanks, Mike, for taking my son under your wing and preparing him, not
just to play football, but for the "life lessons" he learned
from you!
It was an honor to have been asked by Coach McCool's assistant to create
a collage commemorating his years of coaching several of the kids who
now play
for Harrison Cub, and the presentation of it following a great game,
and a "Super Bowl" victory in double overtime, last year,
is something I will never forget!
